Fall Hunting Tactics
Okay Guys and Gals - lets share our fall turkey hunting tactics.
I have put a sneak on a group - gotten close - jumped up and hollered and hooted and even shot in the air to scatter the flock the best I could. It is better if the turkeys go in all directions but this does not happen to often. But I do stay put and concentrate on the few that flew off by theirselves. I find a good spot - hunkeer down and Kee-kee or lost hen call at intervals. I wait aobut 15 minutes or so afterr I have scattered the flock. I may even place one lone hen decoy to help. The other tactic I have done is put the sneak on a feeding flock - taking care to get into range and picked one off. Or if I have patterned the flock well and know their general roost location and where they like to feed I will sit and wait for them to come off of roost to feed. During the day I will softly cluck but not much else. late afternoon hunts I do set up on feeding plots and later may try to get inot position from where they feed and like to roost as they will loaf a bit before they fly up. So that is what I have done - how about you? Care to share to ehlp others on this page? JW |
RE: Fall Hunting Tactics
Our bow season overlaps with fall turkey season so if I am bowhunting and hear some fly up I will get down after dark and walk through their roost making all the noise I can to scatter them. The next morning when it gets light they will kee kee like crazy.
JW I have done all your suggestions too, just thought I would throw antoher one out there. |
