This past fall I got an 835 at K Mart for $216 on clearance. It has the black synthetic stock, parkarized finish and ported 26" bbl. More of a waterfowl version, but it works for me as a turkey killer. Added some fiber optic sights and a turkey choke and voila! ;)

As far as the SPS-T goes, I' d love to have one but it' s a little out of my price range for now. I do own an older 870 Wingmaster in southpaw version and prefer the 870' s action over the 500s and 835s, but for an all around, good shootin' , solid, and reasonably priced shotgun, you can' t beat the Mossbergs.

BTW, at our Wal Mart, the camo 835 is around $369 I think.

I have the Remington 870 SPS-T and highly recommend it. It is definitely going to cost you more than the Mossberg but I personally believe it is worth it in the long run. It will hold it' s trade-in value better for down the road if you find something you would rather have later on. But if money is a factor, the 835 will serve you well also. Many a turkey have fallen to both of these guns. Good luck! :)

If money' s not really an object then definitely go with the Remington. My cousin has the 870 SPS-T and absolutely loves it (I do, too.)

For an in-between price and an excellent gun, don' t forget the Benelli Nova. I recently picked up a brand new one for $369 + tax (24" camo). It' s a great gun, too.

The 835 in woodland camo isn' t priced bad. The barrels on the 835 are really good.
If you are set on an 870, I' d get an 870 Express. It' s not camo, but the turkeys won' t know the difference.

my vote goes to the 870. I have the express 870 supermag in mossyoak break up. for a pump turkey/waterfowl gun this is awsome. you can shoot the big 3 1/2 inch loads or just stick with the 2 3/4 if you want. my dad has an 835 and he also likes the rem better. its more solid and is deffinatly worth the money. if you dont want the 3 1/2inch, just go with the 870 express mag. (2 3/4 and 3" ) just my 2 cents

I' ve owned both. I currently have a 835 that is one of the originals and it has taken a licking and keeps on ticking. But I remember the balance and smooth action of the old 870 3" goose killer I had back in the 1970s and if I had to do it all over - I' d buy the Remington in a good camo and never look back, IMHO. You would do very well with either one.;)

I have the 835. 3 1/2in. shells seem to stick once in awhile. Hope I can over come this problem, I do like the gun though. I think I' ll try the bow this year and send the gun in to have it looked at, or maybe I' ll use my new Berretta AL391, or maybe my Rem. 870, or my Mossberg 500, or my Winchester, or maybe, well, I' ll figure something out.:D;) lol
