does anyone bowhunt turkets?
this spring I am going to attempt to bowhunt a turkey. I can take two so I figure I will try one with a bow and one shotgun. Any tips on blinds, special broadheads etc. would be appreciated.

RE: does anyone bowhunt turkets?
the muzzy 3 blade 100 works great as does the spitfire 100. I actually used to like the old muzzy turkey thumper but the 3 blade works great on anything!
when bowhunting turkeys I like finding the roost areas & wait for them to come in (afternoon hunt), you might use some purrs & clucks, maybe a kee kee. just do some hen talk to sound like turkeys moving in. of course if you can't hunt in the afternoon don't bother with this. If you can only hunt in the morning try to find a tom & pattern him. get between his roost, struting area & wait on him to come in. also look for fields that they are using in & use some decoys to bring them in close to your blind. the standard method of running & gunning isn't the best method with a bow but heck it can work if you work at it. as far as blinds I like sitting in a treestand (afternoon hunting in roost areas)or using a hand made blind of brush for the ground. just try to look natural! |
