Glass Call Review

Went out today to buy another box of shells for next weeks patterning trip to the range and walked away with a new a box of Kent' s diamond load and a new glass call, go figure ;) .

The call, a Doug Camp glass call has a mahogany pot which makes this a very nice looking call. The glass is " pre-conditioned" by what appears to be sand blasting and is 3 1/2" in diameter. The striker is a 1/4" diameter maple dowel with an attractive hardwood stained top. The striker measures 6 1/2" in length.

I sat down with a pretty good selection of strikers (ten in all) and gave it a test drive.

I am quite happy with this pretty little call. Nice two tone yelps from the new striker along with my favorites. Nice and quite to rather loud and raspy depending on striker and pressure. Nice cutts and purrs and I even got a kee-kee or two out of it, which I have all kinds of trouble with.

One thing I do like about this call is a statement made on the Camp Callers web page and on the package, " If your caller doesn' t perform to your satisfaction for any reason, return it to us and we will repair it, replace it, or refund your money." Ya' can' t beat that with a stick.

:D LOL

Wow! That thing has went on up! I bet it would sound good! Just thought about it and tried a " Turkey Beard" striker from one of his " Last Calls" on it, a cherry striker with about a 1/4" diameter dowel, sounded pretty sweat.

Raven the Kee-Kee is done on a slate , by useing the outside of the surface in 3 strokes then drop the striker towards the middle of the surface to yelp ,, if you want a Kee-Kee-Run..BT

BT beat me to it. I think it is by far the hardest call for a box or slate type call. I have found by using a small diameter striker it is a tad easier. At least on glass. I have a buddy who has kee-keed on my slate over glass I made but I can' t come close. Actually he has kee-keed on several of my calls and now I have no excuse why I can' t ;)
