Anyone in or near Tompkins County NY?
This is my first turkey hunting year, and i'm loving it thus far. The only problem is given my situation (being new to turkeys, and needing someone to show me the ropes, and basics, and my M-F work schedule), I can't go out as much as I want to.
Currently I've been going out with my co-workers boyfriend who has been turkey hunting his whole life, and we run across a LOT of turkeys, but under unlucky situations resulting in no shots taken. So I go out every Saturday morning with him,a nd he takes me around his spots (in and around Brooktondale), and is showing me the ropes, and its been great.
BUT I want to get out more, but do not know of any good spots around me, and given that I've been hunting his spots, I didn't do any preseason research on Connecticut Hill which is the closest and largest state land next to me. I wanna be able to go out and hunt until they come off their roost, and then head to work (during the weekdays).
Anyone know of any places in and around Tompkins county, and even places to try out on Connecticut Hill. But haven't really been in there yet, so I'm unfamiliar with exact details about that place.
Thanks!

I tell you I hunted there two days in a row never having been there before and there was plenty of turkey action, i didn't kill a bird but I worked birds both days from sun up till noon, good spot to hunt for public ground, I suspect the birds I was calling were call shy which is typical on Public ground and it makes them hard to pull in close. Good Luck

If you have a topo map or go to terra server look at where Schuyler and tompkins county meet off of Connecticut hill rd you see a an elevation of 1836 ft. There is a parking area right there. There are a bunch of pines that go back into a field (white area on topo map) in the area in white that has an elavation of 1750 off the field there is a logging road that I found alot of sign on. West end of the field.
How well do you know CH? I might be able to help you over the phone. sent you as pm. I mightbe up there next week.

On this map look for the 1550 elavation (actual area where it reads 1550)where it drops steeply into the creek also check out around the fields on Swan hill.
You might want to try and put some birds to bed and go from there. Hope this helps.
Like I said call me.
