the only time you would really need them, is scouting, and running and gunning
if you just sit in one spot theres no use for them really

Most people seem to use crow calls and owl hoots. I've never had luck with an owl but have with a crow. I'd like to try a hawk. Every time ahawk flies over and screams and theres a tom around, he gobbles almost every time. Good luck.

RE: locator calls?

I carry 3 locators with me. Actually 5 now that I think about it! I have a Barred Owl Hoot'n tube from Hooks Calls. I have a crow call from them as well. I also have a Knight & Hale Screaming Hawk that is the exact same thing as a woodpecker and wood duck, it just depends on how you blow it and what rythm you use. So, 3 calls in 1 I suppose. I've had gobblers respond to all of them at one point or another.
