Chokes?

I have never used a choke tube but now im getting in to turkey hunting and my friends tell me i need to choke my gun to make a clean kill at longer ranges. I use an older model browning auto 5 12guage. Is it possible to choke this gun? If so does the barrel need anything done to it because i have never used a choke.

RE: Chokes?

If your gun isn' t cut and threaded inside the muzzle for choke tubes, they aren' t an option. If you are serious about using that gun, you may have to get a new barrel that is threaded for tubes. Check out you gun with some turkey loads first though. I killed quite a few turkeys with an old model 97 Win. pump when I started. It had a pretty tight choke already. I used it out to 40 yd. effectively.

Another option would be to have a gunsmith install threads in the barrel that is currently on your gun. I have a Remington 870 that a gunsmith threaded for me a few years back and it shoots great. Like was stated earlier though, you may be suprised at how your gun will shoot right now.
