Default NY gobblers are henned up big time

Took out my neighbors son over the week end on the youth hunt.. He missed a Jake on Saturday but we saw quite a few birds.

It was interesting I'm still in a Turtle shell brace after my back surgery.

Friday night watched three toms and two hens go into the woods together, another six hens cut into the woods about 150 yards below them.

Saturday morning thesix hens came out into the field about 6:15 and the Toms never gobbled. Hens came through our set up and walked with-in 8 yards of John(neighbors son)we did here several other Toms around us.OneTom contnued to Gobble so wemoved into a permanant blind about 8:30 but he had hens move to him and he shut up.

Started to get really windy about 9amwe didn't here anything until about 10:30 had two Jakes come in from behind gobbling and John missed at thirty yards.

Sunday Morning started in the blind heard less gobbling in the tree but had birds coming right after fly down, that is until we got cut off by at least three hens.

Things went silent "dead silent" by 8. At about 10 o'clock had two hens enter field yelping and they recived no gobbles either walked out of the field. Twenty minutes later had six hens and a jake come out, called to imitate the hens and they started walking/ feeding up the field toward us. About 80 yards out a hen started acting weird and darted into the woods and the other birds followed. A hawk appeared with some crowsthis is what must have spooked the hen. About 11:30 a got a complimenatry gobble from a Tom but could not work it.

My son went out to fish the owners pond with a buddy of his later in the day. He tells me that at 6:30pm one of the big toms was about 20 yards in front of the blind with three girl friends.

I thought with the exceptional weather we had a lot of the hens would have been bread. It apperas this is not the case.

Other hunters I know Pa and NY(I live on the border) are reporting the same thing henned up Toms.

Had fun and John was happy last year was his first season and he told me he hadn't heard a bird the few times he got out. I'll be taking him again, hopefully He'll get his first.
