That is a beautiful bird, but when you referrence "mature birds" I hope you're not including this one. Sure, he's a dandy bird, but based on the spurs, beard, etc I would say this is a two year old bird. He can gobble and breed, but he is another yearor two away from maturity.

Like I already said, an 18 to 20 pound 2 year old. I think you are expecting a little too much when you estimate 26 pounds. Like bubbahoo stated, it really doesn't matter. Any 2 year old that steps out, regardless of how much he weighs, is going to be in trouble with just about any turkey hunter.

A lot of this question/answer stuff depends entirely on where you are located.

If you live in Iowa... then sure, a 2 year old bird will go 24 pounds... if you live in the south... say VA, NC, SC... and you were to tell me you shot a 24# 2 year old, I'd laugh in your face. Our average two year old around here is about 18-20#s this time of year. My girlfriend shot a fat 2 yo on Wednesday that weighed 20# 4oz. But, there have been some very big birds getting shot around here this year.

Very nice bird, but you'd have to be a genius to be able to correctly judge a turkeys weight by looking at it. Id guess hes a nice one though.

Looks like the guesses are all over the table, I guess the only way to find out is to try and kill this bird. We start Monday but I don't plan on hunting that particular bird until the weekend. I have another farm leased that has several turkeys on it.
