Great Hunt Today with Pics..BTD Baby!!!
Well I got my bird today as it was my 2nd of the 1st week in Wisconsin for Spring turkeys.
Here's the story:
I setup at around 4:45 am this morning in between 2 corn fields. One was picked and one was already disced up. At about 5:30 I had couple of toms off to my right gobbling in the pine trees where they usaully roost. My heart was pumping now! All I gotta do now is have them fly down to my direction. (You can hear the toms in the background of my camcorder I had recording). Well that didn't go as planned. They flew down in the opposite direction. So after about 40 minutes I went around to see if I could see them in the soy bean fields. Sure enough 2 toms strutted out for about 20 hens. They weren't gobbling at all and didn't pay any attention to my calls at all. So I tried to get in front of them and I did. But then they turned again and went a different way into the woods. I then went into the woods and sat for a half hour and nothing.
So I decided to go back to the spot I first setup (I had a feeding hen and jake setup there). I sat for about a half hour and nothing. I was packing up my camera and tripod (I was hunting by myself so I needed a tripod) on the field edge and heard a gobble way off in front of me. So I sat back down and tried to call. Sure enough he was answering me. I never saw him but he had to be a good 200-300 yards away. Well I called again and he gobbled and he was getting closer. I then saw a tom coming towards me about 75 yards and he was headed straight for my decoys. He was all alone, how perfect. He came running into and strutting into the decoys at about 20 yards and then I took him down. ( I shot him with my gun since I didn't have my new General all sited in yet). I ran out to him and was yelling and I was so excited.
He weight 20.4 pounds, 9" beard, and 3/4" spurs. I figured he was a 2 year old bird because of his spurs and weight.
Here are some pics!!!! I posted it in the bowhunting section cause this is my home.
