my 7 year old has killed 3 over the past 2 years. .410 loaded with #6's. Farthest shot was 27 yds (Daddy mis-judged the distance and the turkey did ALOT of flopping).

Not to my knowledge they don't.There's areason why the .410 is illegal for turkey hunting in nearly every state.

Good luck anyway...get 'em close.

They do make 410 buckshot loads; probably a really stupid idea, just throwing it out there

if the pattern is checked with the youth shooting and it outs pellets in the kill zone theni seeno reason why not use a .410?

every time i see a.410 post there's always people saying they are incapable.

we have a family .410 that has been through several generations. we bought a box of 000 buckshot (3 pellets in a straight line) for it when i was 7 (17 years ago). i killed my first with a single shot, my brother his first with a single shot, and my cousin his first with a single shot. in my lifetime, not a single deer has walked from it.

I took my first turkey with a .410, shooting 3 inch heavy loads with #4s, the shot was only 15 yards, I wouldnt recommend it, but it will do the job if it shoots a good pattern, and the shot is 20 yards or less. As far as recoil, my son is really young and also small, he is 5 and is about 46 inches tall and weighs 45 lbs, and he is shooting a Remington 1100 youth model 20 gauge, the recoil isnt a problem for him, mostly the length of the gun, I let him do lots of practice shooting with light loads, and very little magnum shooting, and he killed his first bird Saturday morning.

I love how some people seem to have this mindset that if its illegal in my state, it obiviously won't get the job done. Also i can't stand people with this mindset that if it doesn't make a very loud boom, it's worthless, ala .410 for deer, turkey, upland birds, even paper for gods sake. JMO though, don't look much into it.

so it patterns at 20 yards. fine. BUT, whats the energy in pellets like at that range?

lotta guys think thier 12 gauge will kill birds at 70 yards because it pokes holes in paper.....and they MIGHT get lucky , sometimes. And sometimes you get a runaway bird that suffers for days with festering wounds...

i think it's great to get kids involved in hunting YOUNG... but my 3 boys never used a .410, they used 16 and 12 gauges. get the moths outta the wallet and get a GRA-COIL or counter coil installed. It will kick LESS than a .410!

and don't tell me you can't afford it, sell the computer that you're reading this on!

just my .02

flame on!

thanks,
moose

Woah hold on now. About being cheap and not buying a recoil pad...This isnt my gun. I dont hunt with these guys. I dont shoot with these guys. What they do is their business. Im not buying anything for them. I just wanted to know if there is a turkey load, if not whats recommended for a shot. Thanks for anyone answering those 2 questions.
