eastern or merriam
 

Which one is you favorite to hunt. Is one easier than the other. Does one gobble more. Thanks!

Here in WA, merriams are definately easier to hunt than the easterns. I' ve also found the merriams are more talkative than the easterns, let alone the fact that you can find places to hunt them easier. The easterns on the west side of the state don' t have near the numbers, and public access is sparse, and heavily hunted (which might be the reason they tend to be quieter).

I' ve hunted easterns in Wisconsin and Merriams in Nebraska.

I feel the easterns are harder to hunt but that was probably because there were more hunters in WI and less turkeys in the area I was hunting compared to the honey hole I have here in NE.

I feel the merriams are better looking than easterns as far as mounting a trophy. There is just something about the blonde highlights in the feathers that I like over the chestnut brown of an eastern. Probably why a married a blonde too!!! :D

I' ve hunted them both,and to me the merriams is the easier of the two to hunt. Most merriams don' t get the hunting pressure put on them like easterns get. I like to hunt them better partly because the country they inhabit is generally more scenic. The merriams to me is also much better looking than an eastern.

It' s obvious to me the Merriams are easier to kill, I live in Idaho and even I can kill them, and I' m an elk hunter. elknut1

I have killed both but the eastern was just on accident. He was in the same territory as the merriams I was hunting. The eastern that I killed didn' t seem real smart though. Either way it is fun but I would like to kill an eastern on their own ground.

I' ve never hunted anything but Easterns, that' s all we got here in Arkansas.
