Will this HURT my gun?

Sorry if im asking the same question over and over, but after I've heard about the "ported choke" and "Federal Flight Control" issue, ima little worried. Im waiting for the weather to get better to pattern my gun. What my problem is, is that I bought a Primos Jellyhead choke tube for my 835, and also a box of Federal turkey loads w/Flight Control. I dont have a ton of money to spend on different brands and thought that this Flight Control would be great. Then I found out that you dont use them with ported chokes, like the Jellyhead. Wouldnt you think that the choke being ported it would pretty much just take away the "Flight Control" feature and act as a regular turkey shell? Also, will this combination hurt my gun/choke?I bought these shells at a place about 50 or so miles away and probably wont take them back, so im kinda stuck with them. Didnt know about the whole issue before i bought them. So now im hoping they pattern well. LikeI said, i havent been able to pattern them yet, but wouldnt you at least assume they would at least throw a decent pattern???Thanks for any help you have.

I don't mean to sound like a constant downer but isn't it pretty retarded to spend money on crap that "pros" sell on tv?
You bought this.... and don't even know if you can shoot it... I'm not trying to piss anyone off but going through all this crap to put 10 more pellets in a 9 inch circle isn't worth the brainwork or the possible wear on a perfectly good firearm.

You think I bought those shells because "the pros use them"????? I bought those shells because I wanted to try something new and had no idea about the whole ported choke/flight control issue. Guess I was being "retarded" askin for help.

RE: Will this HURT my gun?

as you know kdsberman i have a jellyhead on my benelli supernova, and i shoot the federal flight controls. and in my case at least, no it will not hurt your gun. as for the pattern, with my setup at 35 yards i'm putting 42 pellets in the head and neck, and 33 of them are in the spine and cranium. at 45 yards, i'm gettin 36 pellets in the head and neck with 14 pellets in the spine and cranium. notunbelievable patterns, but definitely enough to kill a turkey at 45 yards, which is the maximum range i would ever shoot a turkey from. but i am curious about the whole ported vs. nonported argument, so i plan to purchase a nonported undertaker and pattern them side by side.

kdsber

At some point you need to go shoot the gun and find out what it does with those shells and choke.

No matter how many times you start a new thread asking this same question, Iassure youthere is nobody on this forum or the worldwide internet who knows with certainty what your gun with these shells and a jellyhead ported choke will do. Period. You have to go out and shoot the dadgumthing and find out for yourself.

I promise the shell won't hurt the gun or choke.

With the money you spent on these shells and 100 miles worth of gas you could have bought enough Nitros to kill the limit in Michigan and I absolutely assure you they will pattern through an 835 with a jellyhead.

The limit in Michigan is 1 so it dont matter what shell i got. Yeah I know i have to shoot them, im waiting for the rain to quit. My question is, will it HURT my gun or choke? My choice was to drive the distance to buy shells, not wait for shipping and all that stuff not to mention the money. I believe you that the Nitros pattern great, but just because Im not spending the money on Nitros doesnt mean I cant get a good pattern with a different shell. So my question...will it HURT my gun?

Both I and StruttinGobbler3, in seperate posts preceeding this one, have told you it won't hurt your gun.

Then why all the questions?

Ok your points been made. Every time i ask about something you constantly give me crap about not buying Nitros. Lucky for you, you just have to drive to get them. Give it up, im not shooting Nitros. Am i less of a turkey hunter??? Because thats basically what you hint. Jeez..Should i use decoys? "Not if you shoot Nitros" Should I wear Mossy Oak? "Doesnt matter if you spend the extra money and get Nitros". I would love to try them, but im not this year. ok?

Please show me where I've given you "crap" about not buying Nitros? And where did I insinuate that you were "less of a turkey hunter" if you didn't shoot them? Where did I make those statements you quote about decoys and camo?

How old are you?

Let's review the facts:

I have patiently answered all your posts and multiple PMs asking for advice on shells and chokes. I have thoroughly explained toyou what I havefound tobe the best basedon 28 years of turkey hunting experience, and I even suggested alternative loads (Federal Heavyweight #7s) if you didn't want to go the Nitro route. You haven't taken any of my advice, which is fine with me - I'm not offended and don't really care. If I can help somebody I am happy to, but if they don't take my advice it's no skin off my nose.

You then go off and buy a choke/shell combo that is illogical, but you want us toadvise youhow this combo might work in your gun. And to my knowledge you still haven't shot the gun yet? How is it possible for anyone to know how it might work if you still haven'tpatterned it yet in your gun.

Here's the deal - if you want the best, I and others have told you what the best is and there isn't any argument about it.

If you want to go cheap then just stick those shells you have in your shotgun with whatever choke you have laying around and go hunting. What difference does it make.

Everything else is in the middle because every choke/shell/gun combination will pattern differently. You have to make the time investment to find out what works best in your gun. It is just that simple.

With that said you will be pleased to learn that I am finished offering my opinion in response to your questions about this topic.
