RE: Things to remember when turkey hunting
One of my primary rules of turkey hunting is. "They don't all evaporate after 9:30."

RE: Things to remember when turkey hunting
Another thing to remember as well. Especially in the early season...Is a turkey can easilly be patterned. A turkey may keep the same pattern every day unless pressured. Ive been watching the same tom for the last 3-4 weeks come out into our back 40 at the same time every day and walk right past my blind within 30 yards of it. I say hes a dead bird onApril 30th. :D

RE: Things to remember when turkey hunting
Crows are your friend. They will locate your turkey for you.If your bird stops gobbling, listen for the crows. They will always sit above the turkeys and pick at them.Trust me it works.

RE: Things to remember when turkey hunting
1) Think safety... always
2) There are no absolutes.... sometimes radical works.... sometimes traditional works. 3) LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES AND CHERISH YOUR EXPERIENCES! Paying close attention to the "why" aspect of turkey behvaior and movement is critical, and will teach you more about the bird than anything or anyone else ever could... but you have to pay attention to it.... you can't just watch it.... you have to retain it. |

BTW, when a squirell starts barking at something (same way he barks at you for 20 mins or so when he realizes you're there) he might be barking at a turkey, heard it m, seen it! |
RE: Things to remember when turkey hunting
1. Use a hen decoy... It helps to join the crowd
2. Tune your calls... listen to the resident hens and mimck or call over them in the same pitch. 3. SCOUT..!!!! Scouting is the most essential tool to successful turkey hunting.. I scout year round, I even video the poults. 4. Know the land... even public, know where other people can go and think about your setup. 5. Be patient... wait a bird out... a gobbler has probably heard you calling and may come in sometime... don't move in daylight unless you can pin down your bird/ |
