Need help..wet fields??
Guys, I need your help. My season starts on April 21st, and I hunt around a lot of fields. The fields are not tiled so they are real wet and muddy. On top of the already wet and muddy fields, theyre calling for a real wet week again. Im extremely afraid these fields wont dry up by season opener. I really dont have a choice to hunt somewhere other than these fields either. Will turkeys walk in these wet fields? I mean, will a turkey actually walk in the puddles and mud to come to my calls? This is a horrible feeling guys and I need your help. Thanks in advance.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
when i killed my bird last year he was standing in about 2 inches of water now if the whole field is underwater then that might be a different story

RE: Need help..wet fields??
Hoosier, that makes me feel a little better hearing that. The field isnt ALL under water, jut real big puddles and real muddy. Its not a wet hay field or grassy field, but a worked up dirt field if that makes any difference.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
you should be good to go. if that tom want to get some he will do some amazing stuff. i had one flyacross a creek and walk through a mud pit of a cut corn field here in missouri last year.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
Ive seen pictures of turkeys swimming! The biggest problem will be muddy boots for you. Ialways get a kick watching turkeys out in muddy fields because it looks like they are wearing shoes. The poor birds have to stop and rest sometimes.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
A couple of days ago it rained really hard here and when I went to scout my spot I followed a turkeys tracks right through a mud puddle that was probably 5 inches deep. I'd hunt those fields!

RE: Need help..wet fields??
Awesome. Im still hoping it dries up a little, but if it doesnt I guess I dont have much to worry about. Gonna be a mess if I shoot one and he flops around in that mud. Thanks again guys.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
oh yea i had to pull one out of a creek once. talk about wet and muddy.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
I hunt river bottoms for turkey. water doesnt seem to bother them unless it is real deep. My problem is finding a setup where you are not sitting in puddles or 2 inches of mud. get your kneehigh boots on and go for it.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
Opening day in Kansas on the 9th and I have called birds in 2 years in a row on muddy fields and have had very good results.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
This is good news. Hopefully these puddles and mud wont affect them.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
If they have the option of walking along a dry or drier path, many times they will do it. If the fields are wet, I'd recomend paying attention to the weather forecast. In rainy & overcast conditions a dryspot a tom can strut in be in the sun a littlewould be high on my list of places to watch whenyou expect the weather to break.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
They will come to the fields during rain. Hey maybe you could throw out a couple of duck decoys to make them feel secure.....

RE: Need help..wet fields??
Well im not quite sure if its supposed to rain during the season, just a matter of how wet the fields will still be when turkey season arrives.

RE: Need help..wet fields??
Just had a MONSTER rain last night. I have a Lake Michigan replica on the side of my house, cant image what the fields are gonna be like now. I have until the 21st for those dang things to dry up. Not looking good though.
