hevishot question

i THINK that i will give this stuff a try this spring, but am a little confused about the product.
i have found info on this product on sites such as nitro, hevishot and remington. the nitro site is the only one i see were a variety of shot sizes are available, including multiple shot size combos. they are using copper plated lead combined with hevishot and such. they offer high or standard velocities.
the hevishot and remington site offer their loads in 2,4,6' s in standard and high velocity.
does anyone have any experience with any of these loads?
doesn' t the nitro combo load sort of defeat the hevishot philosophy if 2/3 of their load is standard lead?
how can nitro justify 4$ per round?
i currently shoot 3" 6' s out of my 870 using the superfull(.665) choke tube and absolutley love the pattern it gives me. i am looking to pattern a box of 3" 6' s of hevishot with the same setup, but after reading these different sites, am wondering if there is a better load to try.
any insight would be greatly appreciated, seeing that i am gleeming over my successful response to my permit today..lol

RE: hevishot question

I use the 2&5/8 ounce " economy" hevi shot load from Nitro in my 3.5" 12 gauge Browning BPS. This load is amazing. It performs just as well on turkeys as it does on paper. The Nitro ammo patterened better at 60 yards than did the best " factory" load at 40 yards. Before anyone says anything I would never take a shot that far and I realize that at that distance you most likely do not have enough energy to take out a turkey. Buy a 10 pack of the stuff and pattern it beside your best shooting ammo and see what happens. Hey its only money!!!!LOL

RE: hevishot question

I just tried the remington hevi-shot on two of my guns and I' m not impressed. I could understand how it wouldn' t do good in the first gun because nothing would work in it. But I just shot it out of my mossberg and it didn' t do any better (8 hits)at 35 yards than normal copper plated lead shot did. And at 40 yards it did worse. I only got 1 hit in a 3" circle. To me it was just a waste of money. But I guess it' s worth a try, I always have bad luck with anything new.

RE: hevishot question

I ahd the opposite results of kodiakhuntmaster. I found the hevi-shot to out pattern the other lead shells. My buddy had problems when he tried his super tight choke with it. It seems to blow open the pattern. Hevi-shot is hard like steel and does not like to tight of a choke. The choke they make specifically for it is .675. I had great results with my pl;ain full choke in my benelli. The bird i took at 35 yards last year had five pellets in the head and beak.
