Bowhunting turkeys
 

What do you allt hink about bow hunting turkeys. Been wanting to try it but i just havnt tried it yet. Looking for some tips, gear suggestions, ect... anything will help. Thanks in advance.

The best advice I can give you if you want to kill a turkey with your bow is leave your gun at home. Don't even say you will just leave it in the truck..... you'll end up carrying your gun. You have to committ yourself to killing one with a bow.

Other than that, a portable ground blind is pretty well standard equipment. It can be done without one, but thats a tough tought thing to do. Decoys help immensely. Mouth calls are pretty well a must. For broadheads I use Rocket Hammerheads. Whatever you choose, ideally you want your arrow to stay in the bird. Turn your poundage down... 60# is the absolute max I'd recommend.

Study up on pictures of the vitals as well. Shot placement should be HIGH! Hit'em high watchem die... hit'em low... watchem go. Better to miss high and just get some feathers than hit one in the breast and lose it.

Its a blast! I hunt them out of a dog house portable ground blind either on a field edge a creek crossing a cattle hayfeeding location or a feeder and I have taken many with my bow!!! Good Luck I do call them using decoys at all of these locations. I like to spread oats or wheat out in a hay pile spot that the cattle have been through and the turkeys LOVE scratching around in it.

I'm gonna start bowhunting turkeys once I get my bow. I should be getting sometime this month. I've gone with my dad and its challenging.

I agree that leaving your gun at home is the key. You just HAVE to be dedicated, and realize you are going to have birds come in that you know you could take with the gun, but are unable to with the bow. I don't always get a shot, but its the experience that does it for me. I'd rather kill one bird with the bow, than ten with the gun, but thats just me. So leave the gun at home, and you'll find that once you do take a bird with the bow there's just nothing like it, and you'll find yourself holding the bow when you get to your favorite hunting spotwhen you meant to bring the gun.There's just something about that bow kill that trips my trigger!
