I may have lost my mind
I am going to try to take a turkey with my uncles H&R singleshot 12 ga (if it patterns ok). For those of you who havent had the privalegde of shootinga gun like this let me tell you, they kick like a mule. Trap loads gave me a bruise, granted I shot a box of them. I think I am addicted to shoulder pain:eek:. Anyone else ever use a single shot 12 gauge on turkeys? If so did you have to have a shoulder replaced?:D

RE: I may have lost my mind
I have the H&R 3 1/2" Turkey Edition. I only shoot 3" out of it though. I like the gun personally. I don't think it kicks all that bad. I took a bird last year at 38yrds with the new Federal Flight Control shells. The gun really seems to like them. [/align] |
RE: I may have lost my mind
I don't think a single shot is any handi cap for calling in turkeys...I have been Turkey hunting for 35 years and have never fired a second shot yet...
The kick will effect you more during the patterning process than the actual hunting shot. But if you are uncomfortable with the kick there are recoil pads which will lessen the pain.... Depending on the length of the stock fit, it could require shorting the stock.. |
RE: I may have lost my mind
I use to shoot a single shot and said enough of that. Mine kicked like a mule.

I have single shot H&R single shot 20 ga that patterns pretty good but don't hunt with it anymore because a got a H&R pardner pump 12ga. but i did win a skeet shooting contest with it.

RE: I may have lost my mind
You may not have lost your mind, but if you keep shooting that single shot with those turkey loads you'll lose some teeth fillings soon enough!:D

RE: I may have lost my mind
double barrel 12 ga Hercules and for some reason someone removed the recoil pad the first time i shot it. oh and i was only 12. yes it knocked me on my rear.

RE: I may have lost my mind
I am in the process of working on a load/choke combonation for my girl to shoot... its a TC Encore... which is little more than an ergonomic $600 H&R..... It had better shoot a good pattern or I'll throw it in the river.
