RE: Calling Tips
I'm afraid that there's really no sure-fire way to make them longbeards come running. One piece of advise is this: Whatever type of calling you do, don't over-call. This is one instance where, if you think a little is good then a lot must be better, does not apply!

RE: Calling Tips
I agree with Simp, but sometimes the basic simple calls are the ones that work the best. Sure there are a times when fancy cuts and yelps work great, but there are more times were a simple series of yelps is all you need. I've called birds from a couple hundred yards away doing nothing but making simple clucks and purrs like a feeding hen.

RE: Calling Tips
Deadliest call you can make is basic clucks and scratching the leaves while being in a spot the gobblers are going to be.

RE: Calling Tips
When you are scouting listen to the real hens and learn how the talk to each other. Then mimic it.

RE: Calling Tips
Give it to them when they want it, and back off when they don't! The tough part it telling the difference....
There are cd's and tapes on the market that really help with this. Good luck! |
RE: Calling Tips
Totally agree with above i justmix ina few soft yelps.Cluckin & purrin are two calls that will work in just about every situation.

RE: Calling Tips
Nothing brings them in any better than a feeder going off. Of course this is not really what you are talking about.
Try anything that you think they want to hear. If they are loud be loud then shut up. If they are soft be soft then shut up. No reason to call to much once they respond. Remember you are reversing nature by having the gobbler come to you. |
RE: Calling Tips

RE: Calling Tips
Get a copy of Treetop Turkeys, it's a enitre cd of turkeys calling.
You will be able to listen to their cadence and rythem. Hope this helps. God Bless |
RE: Calling Tips
If you are fairly new to the turkey calling, I would stay with what has been stated thus far. Use simple basic calls clucks, purrs, and yelps. Try to make the turkey do most of the calling....call enough to let him know you are there and interested.
Do not call too loud, turkeys hear well. When you are in a room talking to someone your voice is at a level for them to hear well...do the same with turkeys. No need to call if they are in sight and coming..this will only give away your location...After they are in sight only call if they start to lose interest and "Skirt your location"..then just enough to get them back on course often a cluck will do. When they are in range and you want them to raise their head high for a good still shot and to keep pellets out of the body a simple low cluck with a mouth call is all it takes.... |
