I really could use some help with my 11 year olds new turkey gun. It is a Remington 870 mag 20 gauge with 21" barrel. It came with a modified choke tube. I need to buy a good tube for turkeys and have found some but don' t know which restriction or brand to try. I know it' s just a guess but any suggestions would be appricated. I also could use some suggestions on shot size. Thanks in advance. Don

id start with a rem turkey choke i think they also make a turkey extra full too

I' ve heard good things about Kicks chokes. I use the one that came with my gun,extra full. You definately need a full or extra full.

Shot size, only one way to determine that. Buya few different sizes and shoot the gun. There are a few sites where you can down load Turkey targets for free.

I like N0. 4' s other people swear by 5 and 6' s. Just find out what works best, brand and shot size for that particular gun. Federal and Wichester in the same length and shot size shoot differently in my gun.

That' s the gun I started with when I was 12! I shot a regular full choke in mine and it patterned suprisingly well clear out to 40 yards. However Remington and Hastings both offer specialty turkey chokes now for 20 gauge guns. I think thats where I' d start. As for shot size, I' ve always liked 5' s, but I killed a gobbler with that 20 with a Federal 3" #4. As a rule, Federal shells have always shot well out of Remingtons for me and my father. Try as many different brands and shot sizes as you can. Good luck to you and your son!!

I' m still shooting a 12 ga 870 with a rem turkey choke that patterns very well. I' m sure there is a turkey or extra full choke for that 20 ga of yours.

Don, Kick' s makes awfully good chokes but they are kind of pricey, around $60 or so but well worth the money. As for shot size, I would go with 5' s for a starter. You may have to try other shot sizes but 5' s usually pattern very well in most guns. If not, try 4' s and 6' s until you find the one that your gun likes. Good luck! :)

I' ll have to agree with the Kicks choke. Know several people who have good luck with the Kicks and a 20 gauge. I prefer #5 shot also, and thankfully so does my gun.
