The only success I've had with the gobble call is by locating them. IT works good for a shock gobble, but I haven't actually called one in with it.

BB Great story, and even more important a better point you made in describing how dominant an old longbeard can actually be.There are a lot more than just a couple of reasons the woods tend to be quiet even though we know we are in prime turkey country.Weather, huntin pressure,# of birds in your area, all have an impact on gobbling activity, and yes as you pointed out a dominant gobbler will do anything he can to keep breeding activity down to a minimume in his area unless done by him. With that in mind I believe a gobbler call, weather we gobble or call to imitate a tom yelping or clucking are under used. Most guys I know when the woods are quiet grab a hen call or some other locater to try and spark up a gobble. If you know a boss gobbler is using a particular area than you should try using a gobbler call when things are quiet.I've had a gobble tube on more than one occasion seal the deal,so my Red Wolfe is always in my fanny pack. :)

don'y really like to use the gobble during season, but it's been a real asset filming before season. Sometimes when a gobbler hangs up I'll gobble at him just enough to get the reaction from him them shut up. 2 out of three times if he is a longbeard and lonely, he'll be in site before long. :)

I HAVE HAD IT WORK A FEW TIMES. LIKE ONE OF THE OTHER GUYS SAID, IT WORKS GOOD WHEN THEY ARE HUNG UP. HEY, BOGOBBLE, YOU ARENT MAD AT ME FOR WHAT I SAID ABOUT SHOT SIZES? ARE YOU? I DID SAY I WAS JUST JOKING.
