Wacker,
That' s a great looking call. I' ll have to take a couple pics of my sassafras and post it.
The spray on etching you would have to sray on the underside because it' s not as durable as regular etching. Michaels sales a etching bath that you can use for the top that is very durable and even water proof. Though it is a little expensive.
I agree that the call is very easy to make. All I did was sand it down to what I wanted, cutting the sharp corners, and then polished it to raise the grain. Then about three coats of polycrilic with buffing between each coat.
Man, now I have to order some zebra wood
P.S. What size glass did you use for the bottom piece?

Well, my Turkey Hunting partner who makes custom calls took a picture of me and my Tom and put it under glass on a slate! Well it sounds great and he didn' t want me to use it, but I think it will bring luck. I used one of his calls to give a little yelp that brought the Big Guy in last year to the breeding decoys (along with about 20 Jakes--honest to God!) So I figure with sounds like that, well it has to be nothing but luck for me!

Scott,I used 3" glass for the bottom piece and 3 1/2' for the top.You will find that the zebrawood is very hard to sand.I' d like to start making my own wood pots but I need to talk the wife into buying me a lathe first.I' ll be watching for the pics of your sassafrass calls.
