Gobbling

Would any of you guys (or gals) ever gobble on public land? I know in my area, I would certainly not do it.

I've only done it with a tom held up right in front of me.

I've heard others talk about using it as a locator call. I would never use it unless I knew for a fact that there was nobody else around.

Doneit once on public land BEFORE the season and still called in a hunter. Guess he didn`t have the same calender as me.

I don't even OWN a gobble call anymore. Too many turkey "stalkers" here in the spring, and not enough turkey "hunters".

We used it last year in the evening. We went out to roost a gobbler and found two guys that busted our morning hunt already there trying to roost the gobbler[:@] My buddy and I went up the road from them and out the opposite ridge, which was easier to get to than where the boss gobbler we were after was. We used our gobble tubes every 2 minutes for about 45 mintutes just before dark:D

Next morning their truck was parked up at the tram road leading to our fake gobblers. We went in below and my buddy took a 21lb. 10 3/4" beard 1 1/8" spur gobbler that morning:D Sneaky and mean? you bet! I wish I could have been there when they heard my buddies gun going off. These guys are well known in the area for sneaking in and shoot the bird you' re working, bust your hunt up or even roost shooting. They won' t be doing it again to us, after our run it we had a little chat with these " outlaws." Using a gobble tube while hunting turkey is crazy but we do take it in to roost birds.
