what decoys to use with what
 

Hi guys i juts started turkey hunting and i have a few questions. If i would use a sturrting tom decoy like the B-mobil would i need to have a hen out with it? Should i ahve a gobble call to use with it too?

If you have just started I would stay away from carrying or using a gobbler call. Making the call of a gobbler can be very dangerous. There has been cases where irresponsible hunters have shot in the direction of a gobbler call. That could ruin your day....

You don't need a gobbler call to successfully call and harvest turkeys Spring or Fall . Save your money...buy hen calls and practice, practice practice.... I have harvested many turkeys in several states without using gobbler calls.

For decoys I use the love triangle one jake and two hens. set them out 25 yards and face them towards the hunter, set with your back to a tree wider than your shoulders to break up your outline from the turkey's vision and to protect you from the possibility of someone approaching you from the rear thinking you are a turkey calling.


Use good common sense, be safe and have fun. Just remember no turkey is worth an accident....

Yeah I like to use a hen with a gobbler decoy. You dont have too though.

if your area has mature toms that usually run around with a good number of hens...then a tom decoy with a hen or a couple of hens could be a good thing........i find, atleast in CA, that the toms with just 2 or 3 hens will tend not to come to a tom decoy, so i usually just use a couple of hens and try to get him to come in close enough to take a gander..........

I like using b-mobile with a hen decoy.

If and when I use decoys; which is seldom, I try to use a harem of hen. I use 5 feather flex decoy hensand a insuboordinate jake. Iuse my decoys after our first weekend if the birds are not responding to locater calling or tree yelps. Also rainy days, edge of a field, can be a deadly combination. Those birds during rainy days dont like to brush their feathers againstwet undergrowth and will often times head for theopen fields. Don't get all caught up in the decoy fad. I've killed 90% of my birds without the aide of decoys.

I don't bother with hen decoys now that I have B-Mobile. Just more to carry around.

I just use a hen decoy and a Jake decoy.. I use 2 mouth calls and a distance call to, You dont have to have a gobbler call to be successful.
