NEF 10 ga?
I am thinking about putting a scope on my NEF 10 gauge. Those of you that have scopes onyour NEF`s, what do you have?
It`s alreadydrilled and tapped. But, it`s half way down the barrel. I was thnking about a Red Dot, because of the unlimited eye relief. What problems, if any, do you have with the scope being so far away? All input is appreciated. Thanks. |

A few years ago, my dad, 2 of my brothers and myself all bought a NEF 10 gauge. My dad and 1 of my brothers put a tasco red dot on theirs, not sure which model, got it at wal-mart. They have had zero problems with them. Only 1 of my brothers still use the 10 gauge, FYI I bought a Benelli SBE and put a Tru-glo red dot on it, and it also has had zero problems. Back to the 10 gauge, I got the brilliant idea that because the gun wasa little heavy to pack around, I removed the steel bar weight from the buttstock. I shot it 1 time like that, it seemed to kick twice as hard:eek:

I've got that same gun with the old Mossy Oak Bottom Land camo (NWTF edition) I took mine to a gun smithand he drilled and taped a few holes back a little farther and put a weaver baseon it that extends back over the chamber...So the scope could be mounted farther back... YOU CAN NOT HAVE THE GUN DRILLED AND TAPEDOVER THE CHAMBER because it will weaken the chamber;)Just something to think about;)

Tuco: I`ve seen that steel bar. I figured it was to help reduce the recoil. A friend of mine has the same gun, he said it probably helped with the balance of the gun, also, since the barrel is so heavy. Mr. Longbeard: I thought about getting it drilled and tapped a little closer. But, it`s a 2nd turkey gun, so I don`t want to spend too much $ on it. Plus, my buddy is giving me a Red Dot scope, so I only have to buy the bases. I was just wondering if anyone had any problems sighting down, on a turkey, with the scope so far away. Thinking about it, I`ve shot pistols with red dot scopes and didn`t have any problems. They`re arms length away, soI don`t think I`ll have too much trouble. Thanks again, and bring on Turkey season. Mine`s 2 months away. |

First off.... It took me an hour to type this cause I was watching some cartoon boobs bounce.... I have a very sad existence....
My dad knows a guy who used the NEF 10 a few years back for turkey and completely destroyed a bird beyong lunch strips.... Not a recommended turkey gun |

It is actually quite easy to get used to, you shoot with both eyes open, it is the same princepal as a scout scope system.

I`ve taken a few turkeys with it and never had a problem destroying a bird. My Mossberg 835 12 ga shoots better. Like I said in a previous post,the 10 ga isa 2nd turkey gun. I use it after I get my 1st bird or if it`s raining. I like trying new things, so I figured I`d put a red dot on and see how I liked it. GOOD LUCK this year and be safe. |

I can assure you that any of the 12 gauge guns with a good turkey choke will destroy a bird just as bad, if you hit them at close range in the body. That's why knowing your point of impact and pattern is so important.

Yeah, your right, I think he was tryin to tell me that the pattern on that gun opens up too much... or maybe his buddy's a crap shot...
