Spring Turkey Season?
I would like to said greetings to all. Can I get some feedback on what part of turkey season is the best?

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
It depends on the weather, like deer hunting, it seems like right after you have some bad weather, cold, rain, ect.when it turns off nice that is when the it is the best hunting.

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
The first gobble I hear. All the anticipation during the off season is waiting to hear that gobble.

I agree the entire season. But I hate when it ends...

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
Welcome AJ, I hunt from the the first of April to the end of May. And I see allot of changes. I usually hunt 4 different states in that time period.Early in the season the birds are not as spooky and they can be found in larger winter flocks. It does no take long for the winter flocks to break up.The weather can also be a challege deep snows can limit my areas to hunt.I have seen 80 degrees to 0 degree wether early in the season. Early in the season the gobblers may be henned up and can be difficult to call away from the hens, instead try to call to the hens and hopefuuly the gobbler will follow suit.As the season goes along birds have had more pressure and can become call shy and very wary. But thhens are laying eggs and that gobbler will be lonely allot more often. The wether is a little better and I can usually get into more areas. Every year is different so get out there and hunt whenever you can.Learn something everytime out there and become awell rounded turkey hunter. Be safe and be PATIENT

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
I like to hunt early in the season the best, seems toms are eager to get some and will come right in as long as the hens are not submisive. Later in the season I hold off a little later in the day when the hens are nested up, that seems to produce really well for me the last couple of seasons I drew late tags. This year I am hunting the last week in april. Can't freekin wait.

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
My favorite part of the season is opening day and teh night before. The first gobblle that morning is the best. I stand corrected, my favorite part of the spring seaon is just prior when i take my kids out to a state park, call and a big old tom comes in and they get to see and hear it. The time we spend driving around and visiting togther, that is the best.

I LOVE the first morning, the night before your all pumped up and then wake up before dark and sit in the stand and watch the sunrise and listen to the first gobble of the season, it puts goose bumps on my arms and a bigggg smile! Im from where we dont have many turkeys, maybe 20 within 7 miles, so i go down to where we go hunting and no matter wat if i get a bird or not im always happy!

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
Generally speaking, the 1st week of your season should be the best for getting toms to respond to your calls. It is all according to when they actually started their mating season. If your season starts a week after they have started mating, then you may find that your toms are all henned up. At that point you may find you have better luck later in the morning after the toms have met and left their gals to find new prospects. Sometimes you may find it easier hunting later in the season, when most of the hens have been bred and the toms are wandering looking for new gals.

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
Thanks for all response. I purchased a turkey bow hunt in Newcastle, Texas, so I need to schedule the hunt. A friend introduced me to hunting last year and it is very addicting experience and has allowed me to spend some great times with my son. This year I want to learn to hunt turkeys. I am sureI will have many questions, but promise try and find answers in previous posts before asking. Thanks

RE: Spring Turkey Season?
Wow! Gotta say that that first morning when you hear that first gobble. I always think 'man, hard to believe another year went past so fast'.
Other than that, there is no BAD time to be turkey hunting for me. Now the weather and the birds might not feel this way but I only get so many days a year and when I have em I'll be out there unless the wind is above, well..................... 100mph? I just try my very best to tell myself, I can't possibly even get lucky if I'm sitting in the truck, sleeping in bed, or for god's sake at the office................but then again, turkey hunting season naps whether in the woods or otherwise are pretty sweet too! I'll stick with my first answer............. |
