Ya wingbone that is our dilema ain't it!
but I have sent my letters for permsiion.....follwo-up with a phone call as I hve trained the landowners who have let me hunt what I am looking for.
call it my AT&T Turkey scouting! They give me winter roost areas to which shortens my search. Since many are elderly and as I get closer - I call more frequently......you will learn much!

RE: Scouting
Really Arrow I scout most of the year observing our birds on the home ranch.Things change through the seasons with feed supply, water, and weather, especially with travel routes and where they seem to spend there days.First of Mar I'll start really low impact scouting spending alot more time in the woods specifically for Turks.I found 3 nice buck sheds yesterday. Our birds will also begin to break-up here probably within the next 3 to 4 weeks with birds moving to there breeding areas and hens gradually making there way to their nesting areas.Early spring can be decieving on where your seeing and hearing birds especially before break-up because they will begin to travel.I know I am always amazed how I'll end up seeing birds in areas I've never encountered them before and didn't expect to find them there to begin with. Most of our birds aren't completely broke-up by the season startso consequently knowin where those winter roostsites are can pose a great hunting opportunity for the opener.....

RE: Scouting
if you count crow hunting as scouting, then yep!
I have access to too many farms to scout all my spots. There are a few that i will scout out though as my primary spots. I was at one of these spots last weekend and 30 turkey were crossing the road 200 yards from where we parked.....I can hunt both sides of the road
I have what i like to call "patch access" meaning i have access to many spots but none are big enough to truly hold turkeys on them. Just as likely to be on the farm all day or the neighbors all week. Makes it even harder when the turkeys roosting spots are right on the property lines. I have three locations like this and it is blind luck on which way they fly down. Makes you want to pull your hair out on the mornings that everything is going perfect when the hens decide they want to fly down on the neighbors and drag the longbeards with them.[:@]
