.22 mag.

I would like some input about using a .22 mag. to shoot turkey. I do alot of shooting with it and I've shoot other game with it. I'm just not sure if it can handle a full size tom.

It is a little light for turkey on a shot with a turkey facing you. Any other direction, from the side aim at the butt of the wing or going away aim at the back it will do OK. Better to use a shotgun and call em in close and shoot the head and neck.

go with a shotgun and do a lot of calling and waiting.it's more fun that way,to get um in close.
a 22 mag. will take a tom OK if you get the right shot.a little off and you got a wounded bird.
just my 2 cents,there are 98 more!!:)

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

You are allowed to use a rifle in PA in the fall turkey hunt, but not in the Spring Gobbler hunt..

It's legal here in Colorado for a fall bird. Spring is shotgun only. And yes I've used a 22 MAG on fall birds, without a hitch. Use a hollow-point & aim for the wing butt. Good Luck .

22 is illegal here in Arkansas also. I can't even kill one with a shotgun...so I sure as heck wouldn't try with a 22.

Thank you all for your input. It helps alot to know what other hunters are doing. I'm hunting in Wyoming, so it's up and up for the .22 mag. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Dude don't shoot turkeys with a 22 period. Go with the 12ga shot gun and make sure you pattern it at different ranges like 20,30,and 40 yards to see what it will do. Sounds like to me that you might want to learn a lot more about turkey hunting before you go stomping around in the turkey woods!!!!!

Just my 2 cents...

Sounds risky to me.

My Dad's killed several fall birds here in PA with a .22 mag. Go for the wing butt or the head/neck junction.
