RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
I personally use both, and have had success with both, depends on the birds really. I always got my slate first, just habit I guess, and I really manipulate it, where as with the glass, I just have slightly less confidence as I make a few errant noises occassionaly.

RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
Both, different sounds for different times. My glass call is much louder, and higher pitched than my slate.
If your going to get into turkey hunting a lot, I can't recommend learning a mouth call enough. So versitile. Control of pitch and sound much easier, as well as making any sound you want without moving as much. |
RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
I have several different types of slates with different surfaces. But I still think their is nothing sweeter then a plain old slate with a wood pot and stricker for getting those birds

RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
I use TOOD, no need for calls:D
Both;) |
RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
Yes, the glass will be higher pitched and holds up in wet weather, slate is almost useless when it gets damp, but i like the sound of the slates. I like the primos freak and knight and halesole yeller.

RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
I've got a river valley glass that's pretty sweet.
But....the Cody slate is one awesome call....and I love runnin it. Between that and the mouth calls I got from HB (Hunsucker).....I won't use too many others, this year. good luck! |

Long Range- Glass
Shorter Range- Slate A buddy of mine bought me a custom glass call last year and it was the undoing of a couple of Gobblers;) Dan |

ORIGINAL: MeanV2 Long Range- Glass Shorter Range- Slate Dan Hey, Droptine, if you haven't been to the Harrisburg show yet there are more turkey calls there than you could work in a lifetime. I'll be going again this Saturday. Gotta get more turkey calls! |
RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
I carry the full quiver... glass, slate, aluminum and crystal.
What I use depends on the weather mostly... as well as the birds. I tend to prefer glass myself.... but above all I prefer a "20# victory walk" back to the truck :D |

RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
Yeah, I think we're leaving around 0730'ish. About the only thing I'm interested in is the turkey calls and the Skoal Girls![:-]LOL! I gotta get some last minute turkey stuff. Belt, boots..etc...
|
RE: Turkey Slates !?!?
I use'em both. One of my favorites is a discontinued (aren't they always) model by QB called the Finisher. It's a small slate that's works great for me for tree calls & purrs.
