Things that you'll never do again.

Think just because a tom stops gobbling he's gone. Take a questionable shot through thick cover. Fail to bring thermacell or spray when hunting warm temps. Fail to bring toilet paper. Fail to be patient, and that's tough for me. Forget to bring a mask and gloves. I still killed the turkey though, somehow. Bring decoy with me hunting and forgetting the stake. I had to use a stick instead. The list could probably go on. We have all messed up and we don't want to repeat our mishap. Problem is, we probably will anyway.

I will try and rememeber when my instincts tell me to stop and setup instead of just calling, I'll do....Missed a huge opportunity last year for a really big Tom...I called when I should have set up, he walked right out, I wasn't ready nor was my brother in law and we watched him fly off with our shotguns on our shoulders.

Take the gunsmiths word that he boresightedthe new red dot scope he installed on my shotgun. Missed a great gobbler from 20 yards, only to find out later on the range that it was shooting 3 feet low at 20 yards!

Regardless of my intentions, or what I may think might happen; I will NEVER again go spring turkey hunting in shorts and/or sandals.
I wore cut off camos and sandals on a bow hunt last year during the last week of the season. Temperature was hot.... upper 80s and I was going to be sitting in that roast box of a ground tent. Of course I wasn't honestly expecting much action.... but I felt obligated to go anyway.
As luck would have it... I arrowed a bird at 26 yards... hit him perfect and he ran about 30 yards and burried up under a blowdown so thick the rabbits wouldn't have gone in. I had to fight my way through the thickest crap in the woods and ended up looking like I'd fought with a weedeater and come out second best. Not to mention the poison oak and chiggers and ticks I contracted. But I got him though. First turkey with a bow... on my firstturkey hunt carrying a bow.
Never again.
