Mossberg 500 20ga
 

I went to a shop yesterday and checked out their guns. Really nice people there....I go there to for bow stuff sometimes. Anyway didn't know this but the guy showed me how to measure to determine a good gun fit. I fin out my Mossberg 500 20 ga. is a BIG gun for me...I kinda felt that way but now I know it. He hands me a Mossberg 500 20 ga Bantam or Super Bantam...not sure which is was....in full camo w/ turkey barrel and WOW! That gun felt so nice...fit so well! I held a Rem. youth gun and it felt a little heavier to me and with being left handed, the safety is a little difficult to work. I'm in love with the Mossberg 500 20 ga youth model. He told me how it's made specifically for women and smaller framed people. The forearm stock didn't even rattle. It was a 22" barrel on it, w/ fiber optic sights for $331. And he told me he can order in a slug barrel for it...I think he said for like $156

I'm tentatively going up to Bass Pro this weekend to see what they have....may come back with a gun...may wait and support the small local dealer. All I know is I wish I'd had a properly fitting gun to begin with.

How does the Benelli Nova youth 20 ga though compare to the Mossberg 500 youth? Anyone shoot the Mossberg or know someone who shoots it? Heard anything good/bad?

Obviously if it's a smaller version but performs like my "big" Mossberg 500 20...I'll be happy. Have taken lots of deer, squirrels, and 10 turkeys with it...missed a couple too[:o]

My son has the bantam, we are about to upgrade it (comes with a 50% off certificate to upgrade), he's taken turkey, deer, ducks and geese with it (he's bigger now!):

I bought my son his first shotgun and it was the 500 Bantam. He likes it, I like it (for what it's worth) and there's enough room to adjust the LOP for a couple of years to come.

Well being almost 25..I won't be doing any more growing,lol. It's at the top of my list right now though.

The 500 Bantam is a very good little gun...You also may want to look at the Browning BPS Micro, itto has the top tang safety like the Mossbergsbut it ejects the empties out the bottom of the action keeping them from flying intothe face of a lefty.

I'd recommend going with the Mossberg® for sure (I shoot Lefty too). Safety on the Benelli will be a PITA for a southpaw shooter. It's all about how the gun fits you; the Mossberg® Bantam/Super Bantam® is the way to go for you IMHO (and my wife agrees with me!):);)

Hi, just outta curiosity, how did the guy tell u to measure for good gun fit? I am going turkey hunting with my husband for first time sat. I just bought a Mossberg 500 20g. Feels ok to me but I am like u, the youth model felt more comfortable. Thanks in advance!

If you hold your hand at 90°, place the gun in the "crook (bend)of your arm". Extend your hand; the first joint of your trigger finger should touch the trigger. If the trigger extends to the pad of your trigger finger, or tip of it; the stock is too long for you. Conversely if extends well past the first joint, say to the 2nd finger joint; the stock is too short for you. FWIW, it is easier to shoot a gun that's a little short vs one that is too long. Lastly I think you made a wise choice in choosing a Mossberg® Mdl 500C 20ga.

I just bought the super bantam for my daughter turkey barrel and slug barrel for around 350$ at cabelas
in camo decent gun for the money bought the tightwad choke tube shooting the kent ultimate turkey loads was droppin about 62 bb's in a 8 inch circle at 30 yards
