Archery only permits/season

Is Nebraska the only state that has an archery season for spring and fall wild turkey?

Here in NE the archery permits are unlimited and the whole state. It runs March 25th to May 18th and the two shotgun seasons overlap after the first three weeks (April 12 - May 18).

I'm able to get out the first three weeks and hunt them with my bow which doubles as scouting and patterning them for the early shotgun season.

RE: Archery only permits/season

PA doesn't have an archery only season for turkeys however, you can use your bow during the spring season which includes shotguns and in the fall, fall turkey overlaps archery season so bow in hand already. The downfall is rifles are legal in the fall season as well as shotguns. I don't get the whole rifle for turkey thing...

RE: Archery only permits/season

Our spring season here in Iowa is divided into 4
seasons and various zones starting April 14.Shotgun
hunters are able to buy 2 tags- 1 tag for one
of the first three seasons and a second tag for
4th season. These are combination tags which allow
hunters to use either shotgun or bow. If a hunter
decides to hunt with bow only he/she can
purchase 2 tags that are good state wide(all zones)
and are also good the entire season (April 14-
May 18). A hunter is not allowed to buy one of
each (combo license and a bow only license).
I wish our DNR would create some type of a archery
season before the regular gun season. Great setup
you have there in Nebraska.:)

Actually considering a trip to NW Nebraska in March.
Would love to get a chance at a Merriam with my bow.
Never been there, but from the maps I've seen it
looks like fairly open country.

RE: Archery only permits/season

Well it looks like only Nebraska and Iowa have archery only permits and Nebraska is the only state that has an archery only season before the gun seasons. I guess I should feel special that I get those first three weeks without guns in the woods.

Two Beards, are those archery only permits in Iowa unlimited in number like they are in NE?

LL, turkey tags for "bow only" are unlimited for
residents and good state wide. You are definitely
fortunate to have 3 weeks before gun season opens..
...I'd be happy if we had 3 days! Next time I see
our county's CO in the bow shop I think I'll ask
him about this. Anyhow, at least I get a month
every spring to chase turkeys...
