What choke for Rem 870?

What choke works best for the Remington Model 870 shotgun?

Thanks,

Josiah

Well, I've been really happy with a Kick's GT in .665. It works great in my 870 with Winchester Supreme HV #5's.

experiment with different loads and different chokes and see what patterns best

That's a very difficult question to answer. The answer is, whatever choke the hunter is comfortable and successful with. I personally use the Jellyhead, but that doesn't mean it's the perfect choke for the 870. The load you shoot has just as much to do with it as the choke itself. I have used the undertaker, but the Rem. hevi shot mags pattern better with the Jellyhead. I'm always ready to experiment though.

The first thing you should think about is What Kind of shells are you planning on shooting Lead/Copperor Hevi shot. This could change some dollars in the choke you buy.

All ways remember, you'll get as good a choke as you pay for. There is a reason chokes all cost different prices...

I have seen some friends of mine use Patternmaster chokes, with Hevi-Shot, which we call "Dead Coyote" loads, and I personally saw it work great at 25 yards on a Tom, but I soon after shot mine with my uncle's shotgun, using a simple factory choke and Winchester X 3" magnum at 33 yards, because the 3 1/2 ammo wasn't patterning worth a darn, but after the hunt, we finally started using the Hevi-Shot, and it does make a difference, in fact, my uncle killed a great Tom at 50 yards using it, simply because he practiced, but the ammo made it there, and did the job well in the hands of a skilled shooter.

Excellent Point. Just buying the choke, or the sheels will not make a great turkey killing machine. It takes all of them put together.

I will suggest this.... I have seen many gun, choke and shell combinations. I have yet to see a bad pattern from an 870,with aJelly head choke, shooting Nitro ammo. You can spend a lot of money patterning different ones, or save some money and but this combination up front. This combination always seems to work in 870's.

I've been pretty happy with the undertaker in my 11-87, great pattern!

I just bought me an Indian Creek for my 870. Can't wait to pattern it. Hope it does some count.
