Rem 870 Sight Options?

What is the best setup thats also cost effective for my 870 turkey edition with 18" barrel? Bead / Fiber Optic / Scope? I just have the standard bead right now.

look at fiber optics - I did use them for years until I got so old I could not see back ramps clearly. I used the Tru GLO brand that fit over the vent rib and had an angled shim to lock it in place. I stayed away from the magnetic kind - felt I would knock em off in my chase!

I did use the sights that allowed me windage and elevation using the back ramp.

Theres nothing wrong with the double beed, if that's what you have... I'd say like the others... Get you a GOOD!!!! pair of the fiber optic iron sights... TRU GLO makes about the best that I know of for turkey guns... They have a few different types... I just know the good ones run about $45.00...:)

Iused the TruGlo for a while until I went to take a gobbler and notice the rear ramp fell off. Still got the bird but it was a very upsetting at the time. Switched over to the Williams Fire Sight and never looked back.

I tried a Bushnell Holographic Sight on one of my Remington’s but that last only one season. Changing the brightness from an early morning woods set up to mid morning open field wasn’t something I didn’t cared to do. Changing it wasn’t that hard, it the remembering part that I never got use too especially when I’ve struck up a hot gobbler.

Since you've brought the scope idea into this...why not think about buying an extra barrel w/ rifle sights. It can do additional duties like a slug gun and home defense. If you search, you can probably buy a rifle sighted Remington barrel for less than the scope. What I like about a true rifle sight barrel is it forces you to keep your head down on the stock to properly align the sights, and thereby eliminating over shots.

Your choice, they will all work! I have had a bad experience similar to MK-M-Gobble with the magnetic Tru-Glo's, yea, they weren't there when they were suppose to be.

Going to a scope is a personal decision - some guys have and love em, some guysdon't like em, never tried a scope yet myself.

Just curious what exactly is the turkey edition with 18 inch barrel, is this a late model or a relatively new thing? Just wondering. I've got the new (been out 2 years I think) 870 with the thumbhole, rifle stock and the fiber optics, I love it.

I had a scope on my 870 for about 13 years or so, but a little over a year ago, Itook it off and put an Aimpoint 9000SC on it. It worked very well last spring in taking two gobblers. It offers much better eye relief than a scope does with magnum loads.

Pretty much what he said! I, too, have the 870 SPS-T with thumbhoe and it has the fiber optics sights on it and they are nice and bright in low light conditions. Eventually I am going to try and do a scope (when money allows), but until then, I have been very happy with the tru-glo sights.
