Im hearing alot about mobility and the number of decoys carried into the field. Does anyone use these featherlite foamie style decoys? I have a jake and was planning on picking up a couple hens for this spring season. Seems to me they are compact, able to fold um and tuck um away in your vest or what ever. Cant see them really hindering mobility but them again...maybe im wrong[&:][8D]I have read alot about Toms stopping short of decoys? a fix was suggested that you put the hen(s) / jake behind you but to one side or the other so the tom can see it. This way instead of him stopping at 50 yards out from the decoy, your being between the tom and decoy, youhave placed yourself 20yrds + -closer to him....any idea's on that?

I am a bowhunter so I like them close.

I have been using 6 decoys with success. I call it TOOD(Triangle Orgy of Death). I setup six decoys 3 jakes and a 3 hens in a triangle. With point triangle being furthest away from me. My theory is when a bird walks in the middle I got him.

My other theory is male theory. Meaning if we see couple doing it in one room, and 3 in other room. Which room are you going to check out.
I enjoyed the read and I am going to try some of ideas on here. I have no clue what I am doing:)

Maybe i don'tknow what i'm talking about but i thought you shouldhave yourhen decoy facing towardsyou. Because if it's facing the other way the gobbler willsee it looking at him and he will just strut out of range and never come in. I starteddoing this last year and the only turkey i got to come in came in where he couldn't see thedecoys so i don't know.

:D Thats funny. I remember reading about it last spring, if i even had 6 turkeys id try it out just to see, but heck i only have a hen and the pretty boy combo. Im probably gunna tote the bow around some this spring too.

I'm not exactly an expert, but my belief is that if a Tom comes in to a hen he will try to mount it from the rear, therefore if you are using a lone hen it should face away from you. When you have a jake in the spread, the tom will try to pick a fight with it, especially if it thinks the hen is about to submit to the jake. You never really know which way the tom is going to come in from after you set up initially. Life is great when they come in on a string from the direction you think they're going to come from, but I find many times they circle around, and end up coming from a direction you never expected them to. One expert I spoke with at a seminar once told me that if you only use one decoy, make it a jake. His reasoning was the tom can hear the hen (i.e. your calls) but the jake will bring him in to square off for mating rights. I never tried that but it does make sense... I don't know if there is reallya wrong way to set up dekes. Sometimes no decoy is best. I have had them hang up out of range but did they see the decoys at all? or was there something else that made them nervous?? If the area I'm hunting is a small clearing surrounded by thick stuff, I leave the decoys in my vest, I figure if the tom comes looking for the hen and I can see him, he'll be in range...

I like to position 3-5 decoys out in front of mejusttothe left. I use one half strut jake placed right behind one of the hen decoys off to the left of me depending on where I think the birds are roosted so they have to cross out in front of me. I use a couple other hen decoys as well.

I used them for 1season and i didn't like them. I thought they were to big. So i got the b-mobile and i like it a lot.

They do seem to be a little on the large side don't they? I could never see taking these when you'll be running and gunning. I think if you could slip them out before first light where an old tom is roosting, it may work. Nothing like waking up, looking down and seeing another mancourting your prettiest girlfriend!

Put out my jake and 2 hens, Leave for an hour to eat. Then come back to find the jake and breeding position hen knocked down. Works great. Unless of course you want to shoot the turkey, then I dont know what to do.
