Gobbler shaker for locating roosted birds
 

Has anyone out there ever used a gobbler shaker in the pre-dawn or evening hours to located roosted gobblers? I am well aware of the dangers/perils involved in using a gobbler shaker, but have heard that they can work pretty well in the dark hours (when hunters shouldn't be out there with a shotgun anyways!) Have any of you had success with this?

I use one on occassion-and ONLY when I'm hunting on my property.I've had success with it and other times they couldn't care less that "another" tom is in his area.All depends on how the birds feel,I guess.I've never used it to roost a gobbler,but maybe I'll try it this year to see what happens.

I have never used one to roost a turkey but I have used them to locate a few. Not sure if it was the echo of my gobble or if it was a turkey,lol.

I've used them in the evenings to roost a gobbler in Va where there is no evening hunting. I've had some success with it.

I use them all the time , under the right circomsances. To roost birds it works great, For hungup birds I've killed a few aswell, But becarefull...BT

I like them with Long Sharp Spurs....

I've tried my gobble shaker many times on a roosted
turkey, but have yet to have one gobble at it.<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
but they love them owl and crow calls down here.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I bought the one by &quot;Red-Wolfe&quot;, this one sounded the most realistic to me. Although I never called up a tom with it, I've had them double-triple gobble to it!! They would move closer but were expecting that &quot;other gobbler&quot; to show himself I guess. Like the others have mentioned, this can be a very dangerous sound to try an imitate in the woods. You must use keep safety in mind at all times.

I am still figuring that one out too. Tried using it at my property but for some reason I could't or never really heard a gooble. But he is there, there were a lot of poults and three jakes running around! So maybe this year I will have better luck!

Like Maytom I use the Red Wolfe,and I use it alot during the course of the season.I dont ever use it to locate or roost a tom,because I have so much success with other locators such as a coyote howler and goose flute!Like BT I use a shaker on hung up birds or in conjunction with imitating a mock fight!It can work on an ole gobbler that is extremely territorial also!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
