Has anybody been on a semi-guided Texas Rio hunt? I'm looking for a 3-day hunt around $1,000 by a respectable outfitter. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I would love to do it myself, but since there is no public land in Texas, and the 2 other guys that I'm planning on going with are somewhat lazy hunters, I guess I'll have to settle for an outfitter [>:]

I don't have the need to hunt public land since I have four pieces of property here in Texas, but I do believe there is public land in Texas. I could be wrong, but I think that txjourneyman sometimes hunts public land over towards the dallas area.

Yeah, I think he hunts the national grasslands north of Dallas. I'm not sure about the number of birds up there though. I wouldn't mind going over there and trying, but the 2 other guys I'm planning on going with really want to go on some private hunt to increase their opportunity for success.

Bubbahoo, I went on a semi guided hunt a couple of years ago to south Texas with Aggieland outfitters. I really did all the work. I located the birds myself, which I really wanted to do anyway. There were a good number of birds and I got my two gobblers on the first day. The hunt was for 2 days 2 nights 2 gobblers and lodging. I took care of my own meals. There are a lot of good places to go with lodging and meals for under a grand per hunter. You can find many good places and get two birds with lodging for under $700.00. I'm going this coming Spring. I found a place where I can take 3 gobblers and lodging for $500.00. This will be a semi guided hunt. They will just point me in the direction where they have been seeing birds. The rest is up to me. Are you planning on hunting in north Tex. or south Tex.? If you are going to north Tex., Stanfields is a good place to go. Just go to search and type in Texas turkey hunting outfitters and you will find tons of good outfitters. I'm planning on going March 26-28.

Yeah, I've been researching outfitters by using Google. Just checking to see if anybody had used any specific outfitters that they would highly recommend. Anywhere in Texas would be fine with me, as long as I get to kill a Rio.

Oh, and what you described is exactly what I want. I do not want a guide. Just point me in the direction and let me do all the calling and locating.

i dont know if your dead set on Texas or not, but southbound outfitters is in OK and they offer rio hunts for your price range i believe.

Dave (owner of LRGC) went out there this past spring and missed twice. he said the only problem they had the whole trip was too many gobblers.....couldnt decide which one to set up on. lol everyone else on the trip tagged outi believe, dont hold it to me though.just a suggestion, as ihave not been here to hunt before. ill be heading here in 2009 hopefully.

r33h is correct. I do hunt public land in Tx. Last spring I got a bird with my blackpowder double barrel 12. So it can be done. Its hard hunting. PM me if you want more info about where. However for $1000 you should have no problem finding prime land.
