ORIGINAL: superstrutter ORIGINAL: Rebel Hog A hen with a beard?........Bang!.....Dead hen!:D His co-worker, 23-year-old Justin McCall, address not given, didn’t go to jail, reports show, but will have to appear in court on the same charge. Wildlife Officer Jack Donaldson, with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, is accusing Smith of using a rifle to shoot a hen turkey on private property north of State Road 60 in the western part of the county. Fall turkey season doesn’t start until Nov. 10, records show. And there’s no game that can be hunted legally by rifle now anyway, in bow-hunting season, commission spokeswoman Joy Hill said Friday. Further, she said, only male turkeys — or females with beards — can be taken in season. EDIT: Adrian knows where this is at!:D:D |

I try to not kill lesbian turkeys here in Vt. They do have lots of muscular dark breast meat since they have superior upper body strength.:D:D:D

RE: Can ya guess what this is ?
Yep, the old bearded hen!! I've seen a bunch of them as well over the years, but still can't bring myself to shoot one though. Something about the spurs and awesome beards on the gobblers makes me pass every single time.;)

RE: Can ya guess what this is ?
Its funny how some hunters tend to see bearded hens off and on and others don't. Guess it may have something to do with the area and genetics in the birds in that area.
Last week I filmed two bearded hens in the same property and believe this one in this pic is one of the ones I filmed. The other had a much thicker beard and a little longer. Snow levels this winter has made it hard for the birds to feed as corn stubble is 3 feet under the snow, so the birds have wondered into the yard to feed at the bird feeder. I thought everyone would enjoy a pic for a change, Hope you all had a great fall season. Mine seemed to end as fast as it started after busting up an elbow on the first morning of the Pa season saving my video camera from hitting rocks. Hope everyone has a Very Merry Holiday Season and Play safe... |

In Iowa you could have shot it in spring, or fall. I also raise Eastern Turkeys, and once in awhile we get an old bearded hen.
