ran across this shotgun
was curious if anyone has used this or heard of anyone using this.http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=9935_13769_13869&produc ts_id=94588
it looks like an inexpensive way to get into turkey hunting. |
RE: ran across this shotgun
Sure, it'll work, butbe aware of one thing: When it comes to hunting, the turkey load ranks right up there with the most aggressive cartridges there are.IMO, a single shot will most likely make for a rather disappointing experience for you. Sure, it's a very economical way to start but sometimes the cheapest way isn't the best way. If you get it just make sure you put on a really good recoil pad because if you're going to shoot those 3" or 3.5" shells it's going to knock your fillings out.

RE: ran across this shotgun
I have had a few different shotguns of my friends knock me on my but, so I dont mind the kick.

RE: ran across this shotgun
Another company to look at for an inexpensive turkey gun is H&R or New England Firearms. They are part of the same company.
|
RE: ran across this shotgun
I like the H&R, have one for the kids, but recoil is an issue. The specs on the Rossi show 7.25 lbs. which is much heavier than the H&R. Still likely a beast with magnum type loads, but not impossible to handle.

RE: ran across this shotgun
The Rossi single shot is going to have some major recoil. I want to try shooting one with 3in sabot slugs. That should knock something more then fillingsloose in your head!

RE: ran across this shotgun
You might want to consider getting a Remington Express 12 gauge pump gun. They are selling right now for less than $300.00. This way, you'd havemore than justone shot"if" needed.;)

RE: ran across this shotgun
I had a Rem Express with a 26" barrel with a Rem super full turkey choke that threw good patterns at 40-45 yards:)
I also have a NEF 10ga that throws good patterns out to 40 yards... If I had to pic one it would prob be the express;) |
RE: ran across this shotgun
a shot gun is a shot gun get one from wally world under 100.00
|
RE: ran across this shotgun
If only that were true.

RE: ran across this shotgun
For $189 you can buy a brand new Mossberg 500 or NEF makes their Pardner Pump for about the same price or a little cheaper. For an extra $100 you can get the mossy combo. I've shot a single shot with slug loads and it made my shoulder into ground beef.
|
RE: ran across this shotgun
If you can swing it I to would recommend the Mossberg 500 pump...Tough gun for the money!!!
With a choice in Single Shots I prefer the H&R over the Rossi...I think they are a better built gun and are priced about the same...You may want to find out what choke tubes the Rossi is threaded for so you are sureyou can get an after market choke tube for it in case the factory choke doesn'tperform well, which can happen. |
