The % on using decoys?
 

Hey all you old pro's I would like to know the % of turkey's you have shot using decoy's? The last 10 turkey's you have shot how many was over decoy's? I am new at the turkey game and I have to know the importance of decoy's. Thanks, Shed horn

8 out of the last 10 for me. Sometimes you just don't have time to place them out when he's &quot;Comming in&quot; or if he's close!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

While I have a couple decoys, I have yet to use one on any of my successful hunts

I've shot 4 out of 10 over decoys.

I have shot more turkey over decoys than without decoys. When your hunting for anything, I don't care what it is, you must create the &quot;Illusion&quot; of food, sex and security and you must create all of this. You sell them short of this and they won't come. Weather your hunting deer,ducks,geese,turkey what ever, you must create this illusion. Decoys are a part of helping you create this illusion.

As to your question of percentage, I will safely say 90 to 98% of my kills are over decoys and I always use them. I will also have to agree with Maytom about sometimes not having the time to set them up.

Welcome to the turkey forum shed horn!Good question that really centers around the confidence and hunting style each individual has in trying to persuade ole longbeard to come our way.Decoys no doubt work!The industry has boomed in creating more lifelike looking turks every year!Decoys have some great attributes especially for our bowhunters,but I can say from over hunting and guiding turks for over 25 years that decoys are NOT neccassary to kill turks!Everybody has there own particular hunting style and confidence in the equipment they carry to the turkey woods and in not trying to start a war here but decoys just dont play into my particular hunting strategy!Yes I've used them successfully but I lean alot more towards putting much more emphasis on my overall woodsmanship,(scouting,calling,set-up)than relying on a decoy to bring my birds in!Just my HO!!Oh by the way 0-10! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
