Default 835 Mossberg 3 1/2 why not?

Hey Guys,
Im new to Turkeyhunting and this site so I have a few questions about a gun I recently purchased. The gun is a 835 Mossberg 3 1/2 and I got the gun for close up Deerhunting in thick cutovers and for turkeys this spring. My concern is that after reading posts on this site about this gun not being a quality shotgun that I made the wrong decission as to the kind of gun I need.I would like to here comments from hunters that have or had this gun and the pros and cons they have had hunting with it.I dont really need to here comments from people who have not used this gun or say "my 3rd cousin has one and he wants mine".Im really looking for the experienced hunter to get me started out and not some one that is loyal to a gun manufacture.

Thanks
Gobblen

I won the gun at a NWTF banquet 2 years ago and have only shot it a handful of times when I'm patterning in the spring with my Winchester. I have only shot it with the factory choke and it patterns well, just not as good as my Winchester. It still doesn't mean you can't work with it and make it a great gun for you. Good Luck!

WELL, I hope I qualify for this post as you have set some standards. I bought one and after putting it together, I couldn't stand the forearm rattling so I never shot it. I sold it and bought a better made gun.

I have 2 of these guns, one I've had since 1993 and fired over 2000 times without any problems at all. This gun is used mostly for waterfowl hunting although I have taken 22 gobblers using it. I purchased another one in 1997 for my turkey gun, woodland camo, shorter barrel, added a Pro Diamond scope, and Briley 675 choke. I'm very pleased with this gun and the pattern I get. I shoot 3.5 in. Winchester Supreme High Velocity number 4's 2oz. load and At 40 yards consistantly place 110 pellets in 10 in. circle. I've taken 31 gobblers with this gun and have shot over 300 rounds without any problems. The slide actions on the 835' are not as smooth as some pumps but get better with use. I own 2 model 12 Win., 2 870's, Smith&Wesson 3000 waterfowler, an Ithaca 37 and a Mossberg 500. IMO, the 835's, for the cost, are a very good buy.

Geaux get'em !!

well mine is a 500 but most people say the same about mossbergs in general..ive hunted everything im PA but deer bear elk and furbears with mine...rain...snow..freezing rain once...hot dry days..windy cold..nothing phased it and if i was on the animal didnt have much of a chance...ive shot atleas 2000rds through it in the 4 years ive had it...everything from cheap tagert loads to heavy turkey loads and waterfowl loads..yes i carried the gun through a swamp and thickets around the swamp/creek pushing ducks for other guys and shooting them if they flushed close..not typical duck hunting but you dont take a pretty gun to do that job and it was fun...my gun went bang every time i pulled the trigger and some days id goose hunt go eat come back then change to light dove loads and dove hunt all in the same day..always been there for me...this year i think i need a slug gun to hunt my home county so i will be throwing on the slug barrel my friend gave me and use it for deer...its a true workhorse adn i got it for 135 bucks used...not too pretty but it shoots...

some good some bad;I had one and returned it to Mossberg 3 times.when you fired a shell and pumped it,it would eject the empty and not reload a fresh shell, and they still couldn't fix it so I got rid of it....
<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle>.after a year and no help from them,they said they would replace it but never did.<font size=5>was a big mule kicking peace of junk.</font id=size5>it held a fair pattern,not as good as my Browning BPS,but fair.
I would not purchase another,heck,you couldn't give me one,unless I had a sale for it first!!<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>
just my 2 cents,there are 98 more!!!

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

Like Hooks, I've got 2 of them. Both turkey guns, one when they first came out with the round forearm and a new one, both have performed well with no problems.

I have one with a Hastings extended choke tube for turkeys. It's one of the few guns I haven't sold. It's a good turkey gun.
