Purr calls
I was wondering what does a purr call immitates? Is it a " lets get ready to rumble" call, or a passive "come on in and have a friendly snack" call.

RE: Purr calls
There are two different type of Purr's for hunters, one is a regular Purr which means god knows what to a Turkey but is gets the Gobbler's attention. The second is a fighting Purr that means there is a fight or going to be one soon. There are probally 100 different Purr's to a Turkey but those are the only two I can understand.

RE: Purr calls
Purring means Contentment,a Purr - Cluck is a spacing call mostly done when feeding, then you have the old Puther up call( fighting Purr)...BT

RE: Purr calls
BT's right on the money as usual!Maytom told me that BT carrys a kittycat in his vest to purr for him!
All kiddin aside the purr is a deadly call when done in the right situation.Call shy toms or areas that get alot of pressure when all a yelp does is send them the otherway is an opportune time to switch to clucks and purrs! If your ever fortunate to get close to a flock of turkeys that are undisturbed you'll find that they talk almost constantly to one another and one of those contentment calls along with soft clucks is the purr!Turkeys relay messages to one another alot of times using the same call but adding emotion and intensity to the call in the situation or circumstance they find themselves in.An aggrevated or excited purr can be done by toms and hens while fighting, breeding, andcan even relay an alarm that something isn't right!Hope this sheds a little light on the subject....Bob. :) Monarch isn't a butterfly it's the King of the Spring! |

BT is right.
Bob- kitty cat? LOL! IMO- you can't get a better purr than from a pure slate call with a hickory striker. Ward Burton-- Daytona 500 winner-- go Cat-22 |
