Why type of Owl Call do you have?
I've seen the hoot tube(reed) type, and the whistle type. Which do you have or prefer?

I like the old "Real McCoy" by Butski or the Primos Power Owl. Both are a reed call.

RE: Why type of Owl Call do you have?
I switched from a reed type call to the canister type from h.s.strut.I'm able to roost more birds in the evening with the canister type.

I have a Palmer, but over the past 2 years I've gotten good enough to just cup my hands and use my own voice.
Owl calls, at least the barred owl in the NE, is pretty easy to mimic with some practice. Overall, I like the reed calls better... Strut |

I prefer the reed type and the Quaker Boy Hyper Hooter to be exact.

I also use my own voice. I can call louder and it sounds more real than with the owl calls. We have lots of barred owls around here and I can sound just like them. Early in the mornings sometimes I can hear fake owl calls that sound very phony. And by the way the barred owls around here very rarely do the who cooks for you who cooks for you all call. They let out a long whoooo call that makes the gobblers sound off sometimes.

KS,Always find this post interesting because way out west here if you blow a owl hooter you may just sing em to sleep here in Calif. We dont have the ole "who cooks for you who cooks for you all" owl out here in Calif. We have alot of great horned owls, but if you want to locate a gobbler out here blow a coyote howler or a Canadien honker flute.Cant go wrong there! :)
