Laminated Strikers ? ...another Pic! and warning..
 

Whats your thoughts on a Laminated Striker, I turned a dandy today two different woods, one dark, one lighter in color and it came out GREAT! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> and when you use it ,it sounds and works good, but it sounds the same on both sides <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> What a Can of Corn ! I really didn't hear a difference in Quakerboys Laminated either. Has anyone heard a difference in two different woods on the same striker. Or is it just the looks ?? <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>...BT

I think it's just the look.They are pretty.Myself I don't care what it looks like if it sounds good I like it.

BT, that's your problem right there!! You can't use a striker on a can of corn unless you ruff up the ends of the can with sandpaper first!! Just like with a glass call!! By the way, jimmy cracked corn and I don't care!!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

hmm i didnt think it would sound liek anything..i thought the glue would mess it up...howd you go about that just get 2 pieces of diffrent wood glue them to make on the size of your normal starting piece and turn it?? what kind of glue did you use? or did u use epoxy or what?? thats surprising they sound the same...2 woods should sound a shade diffrent....man i wish i had a lathe..its a pain to use a pocket knife...but i still got 2 that sound....ok i guess...better than the ones that came with my calls and they are made by my hands so i love them lol

My friend cut 2 pc's of wood the same size ,use Carpenters Glue to bond it,then clamp it well, let dry over night or so and start your striker. heres a phot...BT

BB, There is two different grains The one side is Choke Cherry and the other is my secret soft wood. The grain in the soft wood is much heavyer and coarser then the Cherry. Maybe just not enough differents between the grains. I'll see if I can come up with something else. Any sudjustions for woods. Thanks for the complement...BT

That striker's a beauty! Can't say I've ever heard two different hen voices in one laminated striker. Most of the ones I've played we're laminated with the same wood though....

thats a sweet looking striker...im sure if you play with woods you will get a diffrent sound..i cant see why it wouldnt work?....broke bucket...how far do you drill the hole in and how big?? that would give some sweet vibrations off i bet and sound sweet!..my friend has a drill press and i will try it in one of my not so great ones first....that seems like a good idea...
