The Hatch

Started hiking hills fora fall CO archery elk trip and there is this area that used to be a wicked mountain bike area until they started putting a freeway thru it and cut a section of it off. I went over the handlebars twice in one day and decided that it was a spot that I should hike rather than ride for my own sake!! Yesterday, the dog and I were walking along a creek bottom on the trail when he flushed a hen turkey. I had the dog sit back up the hill and took a closer look. Figured I'd find a nest but didn't think I'd find one with this many eggs. Counted 25 if I'm looking right. Checked on her today and she was sitting on the nest. This area is surrounded by residential so it's cool to see them in there. I saw a gobbler also as I rounded a corner. Second picture shows how well she is hidden from view as her nest is on the right side of the picture...

Sweet pics and nice find. These kind of things we don't see all year long are really neat to see when we do have the chance.

Yeah, it does look like two turkeys started a commune or something, I didn't know they lay that many, must have an insane mortality rate if they need to lay eggs like that! Nice pics.
