I'm finished
Shot two Limb Hangers... Both of them had 10" beards... Not much to say other than
No green fields No chuffa patchs No food plots Just 40,000 acres of heavily hunted public land ![]() |
RE: I'm finished
I would of never guessed those were public land birds.
Congrats. |
RE: I'm finished
Congrats, some tried to assassinate a bird this morning off the roost. Sounded like he missed. Public land can be good if its big enough.

RE: I'm finished
congrats!! nice birds!!
i took my first from public land last week. and in PA to boot...i guess MD is very comparable...that 45minute hike out with a double bearded long beard was the best hike ever. just felt great...the ultimate success. off state game lands...something like 11k acres...seems like a heck of alot more...can walk all day and not see everything there is to see.. |
RE: I'm finished
Very nice!
Almost every bird and at least 1/2 the deer I shoot are on public land. |
RE: I'm finished
Congrats on two nice birds.

You seem to think there is no better adversary than a public land gobbler. Believe me, a private land gobbler can be just as hard to kill as a public land gobbler. You at times seem tolook downonall the private land hunters. Get off your high horse. If I were hunting 40,000 acres of land, I could kill a couple of "pressured gobblers" also, and I'm just a private land hunter. You could hunt on 40,000 acres of public land all season without seeing another hunter. That's a lot of land that can hold lots of turkeys.I mean no disrespect, but it sounds like in your posts, if your not hunting on public land, you aren't a real turkey hunter. I hope you don't truly believe this, because if you do, you are most definately wrong. Most private land hunters chase one or two gobblers the whole season. When they know they are being hunted, they can become extremely difficult to kill, just like a heavily pressured public bird. Congrats on your two nice longbeards. BTW, I don't hunt in green fields, chufa plots, or food plots. |

RE: I'm finished
Nope... I've only killed 1 turkey off a decoy... That was 12 years ago...
|
RE: I'm finished
Well done, but I also gotta agree with superstrutter about the private land birds. And gotta add... no decoys, no pop-up shoot house, and no baiting of any kind
