Blaze orange and turkeys?
I am heading out to hunt some public land next monday, tuesday, wednesday in Virginia. I was trying to find on the VDGIF website whether or not blaze oragne was required for turkey hunting, I suspect not. My question is would the turkeys notice the orange if I wrapped it around the tree I was sitting under? Ultimately, should I take some orange with me or leave it at home?
Also, apart from the blaze orange question, any tips or tactics for public land turkeys? |

i would think they would see it unless its been there for awhile....wear it onyour walk in and your walk out....make sure you set your decoys up to where you wont get shot at if someone trys to shoot your decoy, and i always try to have a nice thick tree to lean on just in case......if i see orange or a ribbon, if i have never seen it, i assume there is someone there, but in reality most of the ribbons are from deer season...

RE: Blaze orange and turkeys?
I always like to wear some orange in and out of the woods, and once I get to my location, I will wrap it around the tree as high as I can reach (hopefully out of the turkeys view). Better safe than sorry.

RE: Blaze orange and turkeys?
I hunt lots of public land and have pull out orange tabs on my vest. I show them when I am going in and often when I am moving around. Safety first on pub land and make sure you set up with your back to a large tree and call out if you see another hunter.

RE: Blaze orange and turkeys?
I wear a blaze orange hat when walking out. It isn't required. I also keep it handy in my vest so when a another hunter walks up on me I can wave it. Use gobbler decoyswith extreme caution. I would never make a mock gobble either, your just asking for attention from other hunters. Good Luck.
