Plowed Fields

Got to my hunting spot today and I was somewhat surprised.....the farmer plowed the field. It was fresh perhaps three days old. I heard two toms gobble this morning but they were up on a ridge about 150 yards away bording the neighbors property where wheat is planted. Before the farmer plowed my hunting fields I would see birds, 37 on one sighting, but I think the fresh till may have pushed my birds to better grounds to eat. Do you think the birds may have moved to the neighboring property because of the wheat or will they still visit a tilled field? I am confused because last year they were so predictable!

They have moved locations due to the change in food conditions. Another factor that may have driven them away is the actual process of the farmer plowing the field (with the loud machines and comotion and stuff like that). You still may have a chance in that same field, but if you think that they are still coming to the border line of the property where the other farmers wheat is, then I would go and sit up that direction and see if you can get one to cross over to your side and then let him have it! Turkeys are weird though...they might acutally like the plowed up field and once they feel comfortable with the land again, they will return.

I had a duel with a goobler this morning. I was setting on a plowed field with the decoys right out in plain view. I called the gobbler to within 75 yards and he hung up cause of the muddy plowed field. He wouldnt step into the plowed field...

They will be back if there is food there. Worms from tilling are often a draw.
