strutting hen

Last Saturday I was setup to try to catch birds coming off a favorite roast. It was extremely windy & I heard absolutely nothing on the roast, but shortly before sun up I had 3 hens fly down in the field and proceed to walk in my direction. I had one hen decoy out and the 2 smaller hens came right to it. The first one there did a full fledge strut w/ wings dragging the ground & tail fanned. I had her at 10 yds & even checked her out w/ 10X binos. It was a hen. I had never seen or heard of this before. Just one of those oddities that if you stay in the woods long enough, you will see something different.

RE: strutting hen

She was showing her dominance to the new hen (your decoy). Hens have a very nice tail fan...
