Michigan Report

Hows everyone doing in Michigan this season. I hunt in Central Lower Peninsula. Thebirds here have beenvery quiet, only one or two gobbles in the morning, and definatly not responding to my calls. Just wondering if its me or the birds.

Ihave went out 3 times, seen a few hens, heard some gobbles, no shooting yet.

Sounds like what our birds here in IL did as well. Couple gobbles early, then pretty quiet. Our best luck this year has been after 10:00. I think they are getting tired of the hens, and then going out looking for love. You are probably in that lull period before the hens hit the nest, it will only get better though from here.

There out and about here in lower southeast Michigan where I hunt , I've been out scouting around my happy hunnting grounds and seen them struting around.
They have been pretty active and vocal in the early morning hours, then they get quiet and henned up by midday.
I got unit ZE general for the May 14th thru May 31st and I cant wait to start hunting until then I'm having fun just scouting around.

Yes gobble good from the roost and ya need to be on them quick. After that they just follow hens. Till the hens tire or the Tom tires and then the Toms flat lay down in fields....strangest thing I ever saw.....then they buddy up.

Saw many Bachelor groups of good Toms and Jakes still together. Saw groups of hens - Saw a few Toms just walking after Mrs. Hen as if they are out on a shopping trip with the Mrs. The Toms looked dejected and forlourned!

No mating to speak of.....and after 8:00 AM bad case of Lock Jaw! Hush Mouth.....No talkie!

But I did harvest a Bearded Hen - 7 inch beard - during my 20th year hunting the YouPee.....Ya Der hey! and Miss Sassy is going on the wall forever!

She came in just a catawholling to me........and was the 3rd Bearded Hen I have seen in my lifetime!
